Making a Difference
December, 2008 |

|
Allison Neumann, Peju’s events and kitchen assistant and daughter of long time Peju wine educator Scott Neumann, was recently named as one of Napa Valley Life Magazine’s “Most Intriguing People of the Year” for her amazing world outreach efforts.
After attending the Culinary Institute in Hyde Park, New York, Allison returned to the Napa Valley and became very active with the Hillside Christian Center. As part of the ministry group, she traveled to Fiji, Slovakia, and Romania for support missions. She then became active through the HCC with Global Passion Ministry, traveling to Ghana where she helped local residents with medical assistance and then to Zimbabwe where she worked for six weeks at an orphanage.
Thank you Allison for your contributions to the world and to Peju – congratulations!

A Celebration of Peju Cabs
October 19, 2008 |
On October 19, we welcomed Peju Cab Lovers into Herta Peju’s garden to celebrate the release of our 2005 Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon!
Our special guests were able to travel back in time and taste through Peju’s famed Rutherford Cabernets from 2000-2005 alongside the culinary delights of guest chef Eduardo Martinez, new owner of St. Helena’s “Market” restaurant. Peju winemaker Sara Fowler and owner Herta Peju led the way through the tasting journey, beginning with Peju Sauvignon Blanc and risotto croquettes. The next course, seasonal pumpkin soup, featured the Peju Chardonnay. Then it was on to the vertical Cab flight matched with a slow roasted pork loin with root vegetable gratin and collard greens. The lovely afternoon in the garden was sealed with a glass of Peju Zinfandel Port and decadent slice of chocolate pecan pie.
Thank you for joining us in celebration our Rutherford Cabernet Collection. We look forward to seeing you next fall! |

The Great Pumpkin
September, 2008 |
Move over Linus, Ariana Peju is growing her own Great Pumpkin! Peju’s Rutherford H.B. Vineyard is overflowing with fresh, organic fruit on the vine and vegetables from the garden. The latest to join the lineup is Ariana’s pumpkin patch that was planted just along the perimeter of the vineyard.
For years, Ariana has envisioned growing pumpkins – someday an award-winning heavyweight – to utilize in the Peju winery kitchen and to decorate the winery for the fall season. Her idea has finally taken form! The pumpkins are growing fast and furious, proving that Rutherford Dust is spectacular for more than just growing grapevines.
While wine tasting at Peju, enjoy a walk through our Rutherford Vineyard to check out Ariana’s pumpkin patch, our Rutherford Reserve fruit and our chef’s herb and vegetable garden.

We’re Buggin’ Out at Peju
July 16, 2008 |
|
|
|
Bugs are on the loose...but not to worry, they’re in the vineyard. On Wednesday, July 16, a company of Nesbitt mites made their home in the Rutherford Vineyard with a little help from our expert vineyard crew.
The microscopic mites arrived to Peju on leafed bean branches that were placed by the vineyard crew throughout the canopies of the vines. Once the branches are nestled around the vineyard, the predatory mites leave and walk off into the foliage and leaves. When the mites find prey, or the “bad” vineyard insects, they begin to settle in, reproduce and eat the bugs that cause harm to our vineyard.
Unleashing these predatory mites into the vineyard allows Peju to utilize natural forces to stave off vineyard pests and forgo the use of harmful pesticide sprays. As part of our commitment to farm organically in the vineyard, look for Peju to implement many more creative and environmentally safe practices that will keep our vineyards in tip-top shape!

Team Peju Pink Walks for the Cancer
July, 2008 |
Peju’s enthusiastic employee “Peju Pink” team walked in the American Cancer Society’s 24-hour Relay for Life at the Napa Valley College to honor those who have won the fight against cancer and to remember those that we’ve lost – and we had such a great time doing it.
Peju Pink was able to donate nearly $8,000 to the American Cancer Society! In total, the event raised about $140,000 to support Napa Valley cancer patients, their families and help fund cancer research.
Thank You to everyone who donated and supported this extremely worthwhile cause!

Lights, Cameras, Peju!
December, 2007 |
Peju was thrilled to serve as the location for the TVLand Channel’s original series “The Big 4-0” that aired in April, 2008. The Peju tasting room tower was converted into a buzzing TV set clad with cameras, costumes and even a horse and carriage as the show’s star, DeeAnn, celebrated her fantasy 40th birthday party with friends and family.
