Halloween and copious amounts of candy go hand-in-hand. Whether you've stocked up early to be prepared for trick-or-treaters or it's after Halloween and your kids have come home with a huge haul of sweet treats, you're guaranteed to have candy around during this time of year. This year, don’t just guiltily open a snack-sized candy bar and gulp it down before anyone can notice. Instead, pair your selection of Halloween candy with a glass of wine to help you unwind at the end of the day. Try some of our Peju-approved pairings below or experiment with your own and tell us your favorites!

1. Candy Corn

This syrupy-sweet candy is a Halloween staple. Most of the time, a few pieces of candy corn is more than enough to satisfy a craving. Try pairing this sugary sweet candy with a glass of Chardonnay. Our 2015 Chardonnay is crisp and complex, which will counteract the sweetness of the candy corn. If you really need a chocolate fix, butterfingers also pair wonderfully with Chardonnay.

2. Reese’s

The mocha flavors and velvety tannins of our 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon meld with the chocolate and peanut butter flavors of Reese’s to make the perfect combination. With hints of cocoa and caramel on the nose, this pairing is perfect from start to finish and may be our favorite pairing overall.

3. Snickers

The blackberry and brown sugar flavors of Peju’s 2013 Zinfandel pair wonderfully with the nutty and caramel flavors of a Snickers. The bright raspberry finish of the wine balances the sweetness of the chocolate and will make you reach for another. They’re fun-sized bars so it’s okay, right?

4. Skittles

The sharp fruit flavors of the skittles were made to enjoy with Sauvignon Blanc. Maybe that’s not true, but once you try this pairing you’ll see what we mean. The tropical pineapple and passion fruit flavors of Peju’s Sauvignon Blanc perfectly complement every skittle flavor, from grape to orange to green apple. This pairing is as simple as matching fruit with fruit, and it definitely works.

5. Hershey’s w/ Almonds

This combination is an example of when it’s okay to pair sweet with sweet. The milk chocolate and almonds are the ultimate match for the toffee and cherry liqueur flavors of Delicias. The wine can certainly be enjoyed as dessert on its own, but it never hurts to add a little chocolate!

6. Twix

A Twix has everything you could ask for in a candy bar: it’s crunchy, caramely and covered in chocolate. A wine that is slightly complex is the most desirable match for a Twix bar, so we chose to enjoy ours with Merlot. The hints of pepper and silky tannins are a Twix bar’s perfect match.

7. Nerds

Give the slightly sweet, slightly tart flavors of this classic trick-or-treat find a boost with some bubbles. A Sparkling Rosé turns often-forgotten about Nerds into a hard-to-resist treat.

8. Sour Gummy Worms

Complement the sweet and sour notes of these look-alike worm treats with a sparkling wine like Blanc de Blancs. Bright bubbles and light acidity balance the sweet, fruity flavors of the gummy worms creating a pairing that will have you reaching into the candy bowl often.
